The short version: your photos never leave your phone unless you share them. Recoat has no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. We never see your photos, the colors you try or the notes you write. Recoat is free for 7 days with everything included; after that, an optional one-time purchase through Google Play keeps it for life. Taking your work with you (images, color list, backup) is free, always.
From your photos, projects and colors: nothing. Recoat has no accounts, no login, no analytics, no ads and no tracking of any kind. There is no Recoat server that receives your photos or your data. Recoat changes the colors of your photo on your phone; the photo is never uploaded anywhere to be processed.
How Recoat is paid for: it is free for 7 days with everything included, and the trial never asks for a card. After the 7 days, one optional one-time purchase unlocks Recoat for life. It is not a subscription and there is no automatic charge. The payment is processed by Google Play, and RevenueCat processes the purchase for us: it checks with Google Play whether you bought Recoat (see Third parties). If you don't buy it, nothing is deleted: you can always save your project images, export your color list and back up everything, for free. The date your trial started is kept only in the app on your phone.
Everything you make in the app is stored in the app's private storage on your phone:
While a photo is imported or a backup is restored, Android keeps temporary copies in the app's cache. Recoat removes them when they are no longer needed, and Delete all my data removes any that remain.
Your data only goes somewhere else when YOU do it:
The images Recoat saves or shares are newly drawn by the app: they do not include your original photo's location or camera details.
Camera (optional): used only when you tap "Take a photo", to take the picture you want to paint. Recoat explains this before Android asks for permission. You can say no and still use Recoat with a photo you choose or with the sample house and sample room.
Your photos: Recoat uses your phone's own photo picker. It only receives the one photo you choose. It never has access to your whole gallery and does not ask for storage or media permissions.
Your photos and projects are never sent to anyone. The app includes one third-party SDK, RevenueCat, used only for the one-time purchase. When Recoat opens (and when you come back to it), RevenueCat asks Google Play for the price and whether you already bought Recoat; when you buy or restore, it processes that purchase. For this, RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID, a device identifier and, if you buy, the purchase receipt, over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. This is not linked to your identity, is never used for tracking or advertising, and is never sold. If Google Play or the network can't answer, Recoat does not lock you out.
Once, after you have used Recoat on at least two different days (never on your first day), it may ask Google Play to show its standard rating window. Any rating or review you leave goes to Google Play, not to us.
Recoat uses the camera (optional, see above; the app also installs on devices without a camera), internet access (only for the purchase: checking the price and whether you bought Recoat, and buying or restoring it), Google Play billing (for that purchase) and vibration (a short tap when a wall is painted or a color is set). It does not use your location, contacts, microphone, notifications or your photo gallery. To save an image, restore a backup or pick a folder, you choose the file or folder yourself on your phone's own screen; Recoat can only reach what you pick.
The app package also lists two entries that come with standard libraries: network state (lets those libraries check whether the phone is online) and the Google Play install referrer service. Recoat never reads the install referrer and does not measure where your download came from.
Data collected: purchase history and a device or other identifier, only for the one-time purchase, used only for app functionality, not shared, not used to track you, and encrypted in transit. Your photos, projects, colors and everything else: not collected, not shared.
Your data is yours, and you can remove it at any time:
Recoat shows colors on your photo so you can compare ideas. Screens, cameras and light change how colors look, and the colors are not matched to any paint brand. Always check a real paint sample.
Recoat is made for adults planning a paint project. It is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its date. If a future version ever sends your photos or any other data off your phone, we will say so here before that version is published.
